The Ravens have requested to interview Bears’ coach Declan Doyle for their offensive coordinator opening

The Baltimore Ravens have been one of the busiest teams in the NFL so far this offseason. After the team shockingly decided to fire longtime head coach John Harbaugh, the Ravens moved quickly to hire former Los Angeles Chargers‘ defensive coordinator Jesse Minter to replace him. Now, Minter must begin assembling his coaching staff in Baltimore.

The first step of business for Minter will involve hiring coordinators on both sides of the ball, as neither Todd Monken nor Zach Orr will be returning in 2026. Given Minter’s specialty is the defensive side of the ball, that will make his search for his offensive coordinator extremely important. On Monday night, a surprising target in Chicago Bears‘ offensive coordinator Declan Doyle emerged.

As a first-time head coach, who Minter ends up selecting to fill out his coaching staff is going to be very important. Typically, coaches with prior head coaching experience stand out as logical targets, as they can help a new coach transition into the role. However, Minter doesn’t seem to be abiding by that train of thought as he looks to find his two coordinators.

The decision to request an interview with Doyle is a bit surprising, but not because Doyle is a bad coach. In his first season as the Bears’ offensive coordinator, Doyle helped turn the team’s unit into one of the most dangerous groups in the league. Chicago wasn’t always explosive on offense, but when the game hung in the balance, Doyle found a way to get the best out of Caleb Williams and company.

Doyle has drawn interest for various offensive coordinator gigs across the league, despite his standing with the Bears. On Monday, though, he opted to withdraw from the running for the Philadelphia Eagles‘ offensive coordinator gig, which seemingly indicated he was intent on sticking with the Bears. That hasn’t stopped the Ravens from pursuing Doyle, as they requested to interview him just a few hours after this news came to light.

Whether or not Baltimore will even have a shot to hire Doyle is still unknown at this stage of the game. For the time being, he seems intent on remaining a part of Ben Johnson’s staff in Chicago, but it’s fair to wonder if a shot to work with Lamar Jackson could change things for him. If he does decide to interview for Baltimore’s offensive coordinator opening, the team could have a real shot at landing him.

Minter has several other candidates he’s looking at for this position, but Doyle appears to be one of the top up-and-coming offensive minds in the league. Stealing him from the Bears could be a bit of a risky move, and while he’s likely not the frontrunner for this job, his status will once again be worth keeping tabs on over the next few days.
