Josh Allen has an argument as the best quarterback in the league. However, that has yet to translate to playoff success, with season after season ending in disappointing fashion. After losing to the Buffalo Bills in the divisional round this season, the Bills made the surprising move to let head coach Sean McDermott go.
“Sean has done an admirable job of leading our football team for the past 9 seasons,” said Owner Terry Pegula in a statement. “But I feel we are in need of a new structure within our leadership to give this organization the best opportunity to take our team to the next level. We owe that to our players and to Bills Mafia.
The Bills are now focused on finding the right leader for the future. However, one potential head coach (who has only served in that capacity at the high school level) has pulled his name out of consideration.
““Philip Rivers has withdrawn from the #Bills’ coaching search, as (Diana Russini) reported. NFL head coaching might very well be in his future, just not right now. Sounds like he enjoyed the process with Buffalo but now isn’t the right time for him and his family,” NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo posted on Twitter.

Fans reacted to the development on social media.
“He told Buffalo to go hire a qualified candidate. That’s so embarrassing,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Interesting that we never see HOF quarterbacks (or even just very good ones) commit to any level of NFL coaching. Can’t be a complete coincidence,” someone else added.
“Why didn’t Teddy Bridgewater get an interview? He’s a high school football coach,” one fan wanted to know.
It’ll be interesting to see if Rivers pursues coaching opportunities in the future.
