The Charlotte-to-Buffalo pipeline—or perhaps in this case, the Charlotte-to-Buffalo-to-Buffalo pipeline—is still alive and well.

According to multiple reports from Tuesday morning, the Buffalo Bills are expected to hire Joe Brady as their new head coach. Brady served as the offensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers in 2020 and most of 2021.

Carolina hired Brady to serve as the offensive play-caller under head coach Matt Rhule. The Panthers, in his first season there, ranked 21st in yards per game and 24th in points per game.

He would not last through the next campaign, as Rhule made the decision to part ways with Brady 12 games into the 2021 season. Carolina, at the time of his dismissal, ranked 28th in yards and 23rd in points.

Buffalo would then bring Brady on as their quarterbacks coach in 2022. He’d later become the full-time offensive coordinator in 2024.

Brady will replace former Bills head coach Sean McDermott, who lasted nine seasons in Buffalo. McDermott, before that tenure, was Carolina’s defensive coordinator from 2011 to 2016.
