Joe Brady was named the head coach of the Buffalo Bills on Tuesday morning. The 36-year-old offensive coordinator has been promoted to this position following the dismissal of Sean McDermott. According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, Brady agreed to a five-year contract to serve as the Bills’ head coach.

Joe Brady’s coaching timeline, from college to the NFL

Brady has been part of the coaching staff in college and the NFL since 2013. He graduated from the College of William & Mary in 2013.

2013-14: William & Mary (LBs coach)

2015-16: Penn State (graduate assistant)

2017-18: New Orleans Saints (offensive assistant)

2019: LSU (pass game coordinator, WRs coach)

2020-21: Carolina Panthers (offensive coordinator)

2022-23: Buffalo Bills (QBs coach)

2023-25: Buffalo Bills (offensive coordinator)

2026: Buffalo Bills (head coach)

It marks Brady’s first time as a head coach, having previously served as an offensive coordinator with the Buffalo Bills and the Carolina Panthers before his promotion. His big break came in 2019 when he returned to college football, helping to oversee a historically great Tigers offense led by Joe Burrow. However, he spent less than two seasons as the Panthers’ offensive coordinator under Matt Rhule.
