TAMPA, Fla. — A press conference for a new Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator has become an annual occurrence lately in Tampa.
Five different men have now held the position in the last five seasons after Zac Robinson was introduced Tuesday at the AdventHealth Training Center.
What You Need To Know
Zac Robinson was introduced on Tuesday as the Bucs’ new offensive coordinator.
Robinson spent the last two seasons holding the same job with the Atlanta Falcons.
This is the fifth new offensive coordinator for the Bucs in the last five seasons.
Bucs fans are familiar with Robinson’s work, watching Atlanta win all four matchups against Tampa.
Robinson was the Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator for the last two seasons before head coach Raheem Morris was fired earlier this month, leaving Robinson to find a new gig. Now, he arrives to The Bay and said he’s looking forward to the challenge of bringing play-caller stability to this franchise and this offense.
“This is a group of guys that has a lot of continuity, they’ve played a lot of good football together,” Robinson said. “I feel like I know these guys as players just from watching tape the last handful of years, but I’m looking forward to getting to know them on a personal level.”
That continuity also comes from Robinson’s relationship with Liam Coen, who was the Bucs offensive coordinator in 2024 before taking the Jacksonville Jaguars head coaching job last year. Coen was the offensive coordinator for the Rams in 2022 with Robinson on that staff under head coach Sean McVay.
The Bucs offense thrived under Coen, finishing in the top five in the NFL in points scored, yards, passing yards, rushing yards and third-down percentage. Bucs fans hope they see the offense get back to that level with Robinson coming from the same coaching tree.
“So there will be some carryover obviously from Liam [Coen] and I working together in LA, the foundation and the beliefs and that system coming from Sean [McVay] is definitely something that we’re gonna be all about,” Robinson said.
Bucs fans directly saw what the Falcons offense looked like under Robinson, and it was electric. In their four games played over the last two seasons, Atlanta averaged nearly 450 yards of offense and 29 points per game, beating the Bucs in all four matchups.
Robinson also has familiarity with Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield, who he briefly coached with the Rams under McVay and Coen in 2022.
“You know, Baker was the No. 1 pick in the draft for a reason. You know, in terms of the arm there’s not a part of the field that he can’t attack. So you start there and then you get to the instincts, the feel for the game, you mentioned the movement part is huge, you have to be able to move in this day and age in the NFL as you guys know and his ability to throw on the run, he’s probably the best in the league at throwing on the run,” Robinson said.
Beyond Baker, Robinson said he is excited to work with the offensive line, calling it one of the best in the league.
Also on that list of his is a versatile receivers group, and he would certainly love Bucs legend Mike Evans to be included in that group. The 32-year-old Evans is currently publicly undecided on his future. That is the next big offseason storyline to follow in Tampa.
