The New York Jets have moved on from a litany of coaches, including former Pittsburgh Steelers linebackers coach Aaron Curry.
Head coach Aaron Glenn fired both of his coordinators and multiple position coaches that included Curry. The Jets linebacker play was poor throughout the season, though it was just one of the many issues for the team on the year.
Curry joined the Steelers three years ago after being the assistant outside linebackers coach with the Seattle Seahawks. While there, he helped develop numerous players, and with the Steelers, they saw promising returns from rookie Payton Wilson under Curry.
Curry’s contract expired a year ago, however, and the Steelers opted otherwise not keep him, instead moving on from him. He was allowed to pursue opportunities and landed with the Jets.
For Curry, this is a step back in his coaching career after he seemed like a hot shot candidate to eventually be a defensive coordinator somewhere. So, he will have to restore his stock as a coach after being fired by the Jets after just one season with the team.
The Steelers hired former Cowboys linebackers coach Scott McCurley instead after letting Curry walk, and McCurley could be a strong candidate to stay on the staff given his ample connections to Mike McCarthy.
