Sharief Ishaq sits down with Tyler Shough to talk NFL Honors, offseason and Krewe of Pygmalion

All right, Tyler, how much of an honor is it for you to be *** finalist for NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year? I think it’s *** huge honor because I, I feel like I haven’t done anything, so I feel like it’s kind of more reflective of the guys around me and, and all the rookies that we’ve been able to, to do and accomplish this year and contributing. I feel like, you know, Kevin Banks, like I don’t know, he should be up for that award in my opinion, like what he’s been to this team and, uh, for me I just kind of, I feel honored in that way and I think that more than anything it’s, it’s how do we kind of continue to grow. I feel like we’ve kind of hit *** stride there and, and I want, I like, I remember feeling after the end of the season I was like. Man, I wish I could play 9 more games right now. Like, I wish that we could keep playing in the playoffs, and, um, but at the end of the day, you know, there’s stuff to build off of and, and it kind of motivates us going forward. Alright, Tyler, when did you think maybe during that stretch of the season you had *** chance to possibly win this award? I mean, I didn’t really care. I was, it was more of, I was more focused on winning that throughout the each game and, and just kind of getting better and having fun with the guys, and I think it’s ***, it’s *** great accolade and, and *** great honor, but I mean it’s hard to get tied up and, and stuff like that. More than anything, you wanna be in the conversation, um, as *** team right now to go win *** Super Bowl, and, and that’s kind of what matters the most to me and how do we get there and, um, but yeah, I think it’s ***, it’s *** cool opportunity, but. I mean from now until then I’m, I’m more focused on, on, on other things, continue to get better. Look, you have 5 wins as *** starting quarterback and all the stats that go into being rookie of the Year. How much does the 3 game winning drives mean to you? How good did that feel to have those 3 game game winning drives? I think it’s just *** *** *** really good reflection of how you prepare and how you go through your process and, and, and they don’t necessarily feel um. Like those big moments in this, you don’t know when *** game winning drive is gonna happen. You don’t know when ***, *** game deciding play or interception that you throw in the in the Atlanta game and how that may affect it. You don’t understand what, what play and how do you, so it, it doesn’t matter to me. I feel like how do I kind of can you continue to replicate it and, um, but yeah, you get *** chance to share that night at the NFL honors with the GOAT Drew Brees, the past who is going to hopefully be our first Battle Hall of Famer. I know how much he means to you. Like, what is it like to share that night with him and what has he meant to you so far? I’m not sharing that night with him. That is, that is his night. That is, uh, that’s, I mean. Everything that he’s done for the city, I mean, he’s the GOAT, so I, he’s *** first for sure first ballot and to, to kind of be in the room, be able to be in the same city, and, and that’s just an incredible honor. So I think everything that he’s done, it’s been so encouraging to watch and now being able to kind of talk to him and, and use him as *** resource is, is, it’s kind of like *** dream come true almost. So, uh, I’m just excited to, to be able to watch him get that honor. You talked about the Super Bowl *** second ago to see what the Patriots and Seahawks have done. New head coaches pretty much last year the Patriots didn’t get into the playoffs. Get *** new coach. Drake May is there after *** 4 and 13 season. Do you look at it as some kind of parallel, some comparison? Look, it could be us next year. I think it’s, it’s interesting because that’s *** reality for every team, you know. There’s *** new staff, there’s *** new roster, you know, and *** lot of scenarios for, for every team, and how do you sustain that success? How do you kind of continue to get better, um, every single week, so. Um, obviously for, for, for me and you know playing this past year is everything feels attainable. Everything that we can go out and set and do is attainable, and you know how do we go accomplish that is my, my main focus. What is your main focus in improving this offseason going into next year? Um, right now I’m just trying to, to continue to get my body right during this phase, and you know it’s obviously *** dead period. So, um, do everything I can just fundamentally wise as *** quarterback working on some stuff on my own, um, continue to shore that up and then just really just master the offense. I think this is the first time where, and really for Kellen as well that he’s been able to kind of sit down and, and evaluate, you know, what he wants to be as *** play caller and for this team and, and for me as *** quarterback, how do I be the best guy for him and, and, and everybody, so. More than anything, I’m excited for that and and to continue to master it. Look, I know you get *** chance to have some fun this offseason, uh, Grand Marshal for the crew of Pygmalion. You wanna buy into the city. The fans already bought into you. How cool is it to be the grand marshal of that parade? Yeah, I’m, I’m fired up because I feel like everybody asks you, um, and has asked me is like, OK, you’re here for obviously football season. You’re going to, you’re in the Saints. You’re going to games where obviously you’re playing. It’s like, but have you done Mardi Gras yet? Have you been able to do Mardi Gras? Have you been around New Orleans during this time of year? And, um, it’s always been no. I’m like, I mean, I want to, I want to. So having that opportunity, uh, with the crew of Pigg Million and, and obviously Desi just kind of honoring me that way it’s. I’m excited, um, to be able to do it and, um, you know, hopefully can do it *** bunch more times in the future. Any other cool things that you’re trying to do in the city or places you wanna go eat, things you wanna do? I mean, you mentioned it to us when we talked to you last. Yeah, I, I still need to do, uh, *** swamp tour. I still need to do maybe *** ghost tour as well. I still, I still need to kind of do some of the more, uh, kind of fun touristy things that I, you kind of come in and it’s all football and, um, still need to go to the World War II museum. Still need to do *** lot of things, you know. I’ve tried out *** bunch of restaurants, but. Uh, I still gotta check some of that stuff off and, um, I’m excited though. Is it cool to be part of this city? Just some of the things I know you did during during the season and just the fans embracing you. The best part about this city is, is. Obviously it’s, it’s *** reputable name it’s *** huge, it’s *** huge name, but it feels like *** small town like everybody is kind of tight knit and to kind of be *** part of it. And with such ***, *** really cool culture and just everything that kind of goes into it, that’s the best part and I why I love it so much and I’m excited to kind of be *** part of it and continue to, to grow in that way. Sure, you’re excited to be *** father for the first time right around the corner, right around, yeah, she’s, she’s getting ready, um, you know, we have no idea what it’s gonna look like. We have no idea of obviously first time, first time parents, first time for it all, but, uh, I’m just excited for this, for this time of the offseason. Obviously it’s so much. So much bus that goes into it and um yeah he he’s gonna be he’s gonna be fired up. I know he’s I’m happy he’s being born in New Orleans as well it’s gonna be pretty cool alright it’s Tyler Shuck Saints quarterback. Appreciate your time, Tyler. Yes sir, appreciate you all right.
