Deebo Samuel is hitting 2026 NFL free agency after spending one season with the Washington Commanders. With the Commanders in a rough spot having come off a 5-12 season, they are in an interesting spot now heading into 2026, and this includes what will need to be a revamped offense under a new offensive coordinator, and needing better structure so Jayden Daniels doesn’t get injured as frequently.
*Prediction*
With Deebo Samuel being 30 years old, he can’t afford to go through a restructure like the Commanders are going to need to undergo, and should instead look to sign with a team that can set him up better for success in 2026. One team that needs wide receiver help and can provide Samuel the ideal scenario is the Los Angeles Chargers.

Los Angeles Chargers Will Sign Deebo Samuel in NFL Free Agency
The Los Angeles Chargers just went on to hire Mike McDaniel as their new offensive coordinator after they fired Greg Roman. With McDaniel’s offense, it can be expected that the passing game will be elevated to new levels, but they are going to need better wide receivers that can help in executing the offense.
One wide receiver they can turn to for help in this department is Deebo Samuel.
The 2025 season wasn’t horrible for Deebo Samuel as he finished with 727 yards and five touchdowns despite the offense issues the Commanders underwent. With Samuel still showing he can be a receiving threat at this age should provide the confidence needed for the Chargers to take interest in signing him.
Having a veteran receiver like Deebo Samuel that is still performing at an impactful level that they can pair up alongside Quentin Johnston, and Ladd McConkey would prove to be beneficial as Justin Herbert would hav a variety of receivers to rely on.
Mike McDaniel also has some familiarity with Deebo Samuel, as the two spent the 2021 season together on the San Francisco 49ers. That season ended up being a breakout season for Samuel as he had 1,405 receiving yards and 365 rushing yards with 14 total touchdowns. If McDaniel can unlock that again with Samuel, but even further with having Herbert as the quarterback, it could be extremely beneficial for the Chargers heading into 2026, while also giving Samuel a situation he can contend with.
