As the Philadelphia Eagles search for their official Kevin Patullo replacement, the drawn-out process has created a negative narrative surrounding the job.
Several interview candidates have reportedly removed themselves from consideration over the past week. Each time it happens, it creates questions. However, an update on the state of the situation from The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Jeff McLane makes it clear that the Eagles have not offered the job to any of their candidates. So the job hasn’t been turned down by anybody.
“The Eagles didn’t offer Brian Daboll the OC job, nor have they yet to officially offer the job to anyone, per sources, but he was a top target, went through a formal interview process, and had support from key individuals in the organization,” McLane wrote on Tuesday night.
“He told the Eagles that he was pursuing other opportunities. They continued on with their process. Doesn’t mean they won’t find a suitable replacement, but they are now two weeks removed from Kevin Patullo’s ouster.”

As soon as the Eagles cut ties with Patullo, Daboll came into focus. After he was credited for the development of Josh Allen over the years, before joining the New York Giants, the Eagles considered reuniting Daboll and their quarterback, Jalen Hurts, in Philadelphia. When the Eagles brought Daboll in, it was understood that he had two legitimate shots at head coaching jobs. If those opportunities didn’t hold up, he had an offer from the Tennessee Titans to become Robert Saleh’s offensive coordinator.
The Bills hired Joe Brady on Tuesday. The Raiders haven’t made their move, but Daboll wasn’t willing to wait. He joined the Titans shortly after the Brady news became public.
The Eagles have considered a wide range of candidates this offseason, and the leader in the clubhouse hasn’t been revealed at this time.
Mike McDaniel, Zac Robinson, Bobby Slowik, Charlie Weis Jr., Declan Doyle, and Mike Kafka all reportedly had conversations with the Eagles but won’t be taking on the job.
Some of the names to keep an eye on are Frank Smith, Jerrod Johnson, Jim Bob Cooter, Matt Nagy, Josh Grizzard, and Sean Mannion. They have all reportedly interviewed with the team recently and are waiting to see what the Eagles’ next move is.
