There’s no denying that global music icon Taylor Swift has become a major presence in the NFL world, especially through her high-profile relationship with Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce. Her involvement has undeniably brought new fans to the league and sparked widespread media attention.

However, former NFL Hall of Famer and current “Good Morning America” co-host Michael Strahan sparked backlash this week after making a bold statement about Swift’s influence on the league.

Strahan said, “Taylor Swift is one of the best things to happen to the NFL,” a comment that quickly drew criticism from many fans who didn’t agree whatsoever with the statement.

“Such a ridiculous statement to make,” a fan said.

Another fan posted, “Holy crap this ridiculous BS can’t get off of my screen quick enough… How stupid can you possibly be? I used to like listening to Mike “The Gap” Strahan but it seems like he’s washed too now & I’m not talking about being an NFL Player. I’m talking about brain-washed.”

Someone else added, “As a lifelong Giants fan, shut up Strahan. I get you’re a TV personality, but let football be football, not a celebrity reality show.”

One more fan commented, “Seriously dude, dumbest statement ever.”

Taylor Swift has undeniably become a prominent feature of NFL broadcasts whenever she attends games. The league has embraced her global fame as a tool to attract new audiences—and it’s worked.

However, that visibility hasn’t come without backlash. Many longtime NFL fans—those who watch for the on-field action—have expressed frustration over the frequent camera shots and coverage dedicated to Swift during games. This has been increasingly high over the last two years due to the Chiefs success.

Coincidentally (or not), the Chiefs success has earned them the league’s top billing in national broadcasts. In 2025, they’re scheduled to appear in a league-high seven primetime games—five of those within the first eight weeks of the season.
