The Pittsburgh Steelers are hiring Adam Henry as their new wide receivers coach, per NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe. Henry is the first reported hire of the Mike McCarthy era.

He will replace Zach Azzanni, who is not expected to return.

Henry spent the past three seasons as the Buffalo Bills’ wide receivers coach. While Buffalo has been panned for a lack of wide receivers, Henry turned WR Khalil Shakir from a fifth-round pick into the team’s leading receiver the past two seasons.

Henry also carries links to McCarthy. McCarthy hired Henry in 2020 as Dallas’ wide receivers coach where he developed then-rookie WR CeeDee Lamb. After a strong rookie year, Lamb made the Pro Bowl in 2021 and recorded his first 1,000 yard season.

Henry, 53, had a brief career with the New Orleans Saints but never caught a regular-season pass. He began coaching in 1997 at McNeese State, where he played college football, spending nearly a decade as the school’s receivers coach. His first NFL job came in 2007 with the Oakland Raiders. In 2009, he was promoted to his first positional job working with the Raiders’ tight ends.

He returned to the college ranks from 2012-2014 at LSU where he helped turn WR Odell Beckham Jr. into a first-round pick. He also coached Jarvis Landry, who went on to have a nine-year NFL career.

In 2015, Henry was hired back into the NFL as the New York Giants’ wide receivers coach where he reunited with Beckham. He’s held the same role for the Cleveland Browns, too, where for a third time, he worked alongside Beckham. While Beckham has teased interest in signing with the Steelers before, he turns 33 in November and spent the entire 2025 season out of football. He’d hardly be an upgrade to Pittsburgh’s passing game.

For the 2022 season, Henry served as the co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach for the University of Indiana before getting back into the NFL with Buffalo.

A longtime coach himself, Azzanni served as Pittsburgh’s wide receivers the past two seasons.
