The Miami Dolphins’ staff under new coach Jeff Hafley continues to take shape with two reported hires on Wednesday.

The Dolphins are hiring former NFL running back Ladell Betts as running backs coach and Zach Yenser as offensive line coach, according to a league source.

Betts, 46, whose current age is the number he wore on his jersey in his playing days, was New York Giants running backs coach last season.

After an NFL playing career that spanned from 2002 through 2010, he coached high school football in South Florida for several years. He was head coach at Pine Crest in Fort Lauderdale in 2019 and 2020 after serving as offensive coordinator the previous three seasons. In 2014 and 2015, he was offensive coordinator for Boca Raton High, and he was running backs coach for Coral Springs Christian Academy in 2013.

Following the years of coaching at the high school level, he became running backs coach at his alma mater Iowa from 2021 through 2024.

As a player, Betts rushed for 3,326 yards and had another 1,646 yards receiving, mostly with Washington and finishing with the New Orleans Saints in 2010. He had a prolific 2006 season in Washington in which he ran for 1,154 yards and had 445 receiving.

Betts being brought onto Hafley’s staff effectively ends Eric Studesville’s run as Dolphins running backs coach since 2017, crossing over the tenures of three different head coaches in Miami: Adam Gase, Brian Flores and Mike McDaniel.

Yenser has been an assistant offensive line coach for several seasons between the Houston Texans the past two seasons and San Francisco 49ers before that, with a stint in the college ranks as Kentucky offensive line coach in between. He’ll now get a chance to lead the position group at the pro level.

The Dolphins’ offensive side of the coaching staff will be led by Bobby Slowik, promoted into that role from senior passing game coordinator in 2025, while Tyke Tolbert is bound to be wide receivers coach.

Yenser was with Slowik last time Slowik was an offensive coordinator, with the 2024 Texans, and he possesses familiarity with the Mike and Kyle Shanahan style of offense the Dolphins are expected to run.

For the past three seasons, Miami’s offensive line was coached by Butch Barry, but a Wednesday report from NFL Network said he is following McDaniel to the Los Angeles Chargers, where McDaniel is now offensive coordinator.
