The Cincinnati Bengals 2025 season wasn’t the best one by any means, but the play from Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins with a shaky quarterback room was very impressive.

While Chase was a Pro Bowler from the jump, Higgins was a late replacement for Zay Flowers. Now, with both Chase and Higgins going to the Pro Bowl, there’s some interesting history being made.

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, Higgins and Chase making the Pro Bowl in the same season is the first time since 2007 that a pair of Bengals wide receivers both made the Pro Bowl. The WR that season? Chad Johnson and T.J. Houshmandzadeh.

Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase join two Bengals legends in franchise history

“The last time the Bengals had two WRs make the Pro Bowl together was in 2007 with Chas Johnson and T.J. Houshmandzadeh,” Schultz reports. “Now they’ve done it again with Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.”

It’s already great to have just one receiver in the Pro Bowl, especially with all of the talent at the position in the league right now. But to have two, it’s an incredible feat for the Bengals.

This season, Chase put up some incredible numbers once again. He caught 125 of his (NFL best) 185 targets for 1,412 yards and eight touchdowns. Higgins caught 59 of his 98 targets for 846 yards, while having a career-high 11 touchdowns.

While Chase’s season was significantly better than Higgins, and Higgins’ yardage total is the second-fewest he’s had in a season, Higgins still deserves this Pro Bowl honor, as he’s not been a Pro Bowler before, and his TD prowess is enough to justify this nod.

But, how do Higgins (59-846-11) and Chase (125-1,412-8) stack up to the duo of Johnson and Houshmandzadeh from 2007?

Johnson finished the year with 93 receptions on 161 targets for 1,440 yards and eight touchdowns, while Houshmandzadeh had (an NFL-best) 112 catches on 169 targets for 1,143 yards and 12 touchdowns.

All four of these seasons were impressive, with Chase’s production from 2025 very close to what Johnson did, aside from the extra 30 receptions.

While the duo of Johnson and Houshmandzadeh had only Carson Palmer throwing to them, the Bengals in 2025 had a combination of Joe Burrow, Joe Flacco, and Jake Browning.

Both years were impressive from the Bengals wide receiver room, and while the 2007 duo had the statistically better year together, what the 2025 duo did, with their quarterback issues, is still very praiseworthy.
