Christian McCaffrey

After falling to the Seattle Seahawks, 41-6, in the NFC Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs, there are going to need to be major changes on the horizon for the San Francisco 49ers if they truly wish to reach the next level as a team, and not just make Super Bowls under Kyle Shanahan, but win one. One of the major changes that the 49ers could look to make is trading Christian McCaffrey.

*Prediction*

It may seem like a shock that the 49ers could end up considering trading someone as pivotal to the success of the offense and team as Christian McCaffrey has had since he was traded there in the 2022 season, but it is clear that changes need to be made, and with McCaffrey getting older, it makes sense for the 49ers to trade him now while they can get assets for him to better build their team out for the future.

While Christian McCaffrey is 29 years old, he is still performing at a level that can be impactful for teams looking to turn their offense around. One of the teams that makes sense to trade for McCaffrey would be the Tennessee Titans.

San Francisco 49ers Will Trade Christian McCaffrey to the Tennessee Titans

The Tennessee Titans are entering a new era with Robert Saleh as their head coach, and with him coming over from being the defensive coordinator of the San Francisco 49ers, he already has a connection from being around McCaffrey on the team.

It is clear that one of the focal points for the Titans this offseason will be to surround Cam Ward, their first overall pick from the 2025 NFL Draft, with better talent to make sure his development isn’t stunted after undergoing as many changes as he did last season in Tennessee as a rookie.

For the Titans to accomplish this, they must look to get a more impactful running game going to support Ward, as the duo of Tony Pollard and Tyjae Spears didn’t work out in the Titans’ favor last season, as they finished with third fewest rushing yards with 1,589. That needs to change, and how they can correct things is by trading for Christian McCaffrey.

Christian McCaffrey is coming off a season with the 49ers in which he produced 1,202 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground while also hauling in 924 receiving yards and seven receiving touchdowns. His ability to make an impact as a rusher, and receiver out of the backfield would prove to be beneficial for the Titans, as it would give Ward an ideal outlet he can rely on in various situations.

While the ground game is a big focus for the Titans to improve, and would be the primary reason for acquiring a talent like Christian McCaffrey, but it would also be the receiving game impact that makes him a primary focus. Having McCaffrey who has the ability to lineup in the slot, or out wide would help in diversifying a passing game that lacked talent outside of Calvin Ridley last season.

What further makes Christian McCaffrey an ideal trade target is with him having been around the NFL for nine seasons already, he would bring the experience necessary over to the Titans that they need with them having a younger team. McCaffrey’s experience would help him in a mentorship role with leading the charge in the development of the younger players. The professionalism he can bring would be essential to help the Titans navigate through high-pressure moments and keep the locker room stable.

If the Titans want to truly change the direction of their future, getting a player like Christian McCaffrey who could transform their offense and bring a nee dynamic going forward would be essential in helping them progress as they head into the 2026 season.
