The Atlanta Falcons introduced Kevin Stefanski as the 20th head coach in franchise history on Tuesday, but they have yet to hire a new general manager. The team has interviewed six candidates for its GM vacancy, and according to Falcons president of football Matt Ryan, more are expected in the coming days.
“Little bit of an update on the general manager position,” Ryan said before introducing Stefanski on Tuesday. “We’ve completed a number of interviews up until this point. We’re excited about the process. We’re excited about the progress. And we’ve got some in-person interviews coming up in the near future. So that’s where we stand on that.”
While Ryan didn’t specify any names, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that the team plans to host Chicago Bears assistant general manager Ian Cunningham for an in-person interview this week.
“Bears assistant GM Ian Cunningham will do a second, in-person interview for the Atlanta Falcons general manager job this week, per source,” Fowler wrote on social media. “Cunningham also was a finalist for Atlanta’s president of football job that went to Matt Ryan.”
The Falcons are likely down to just a few finalists, and we wouldn’t be surprised if a new general manager is named this week. Thus far, the team has talked to six candidates (see full list below).
