John Smith from California asks:
“Why are people so high on Davis Webb when he only has three years experience as a QB coach?”
Let’s dig into what Davis Webb has done with the Broncos quarterbacks room.
Named Denver’s quarterback coach in 2023, Webb has played a role in developing first-rounder Bo Nix into a potential franchise cornerstone. In Nix’s two seasons as the starter, he’s won 24 games, becoming the first quarterback in NFL history to post 20+ wins, 7,500+ passing yards and 50+ passing touchdowns in their first two seasons.
Webb was promoted to offensive pass game coordinator this year, and the Broncos won the AFC West title for the first time since 2015 and made it to the AFC Championship Game.
“He came highly recommended from a bunch of different coaches,” Broncos Head Coach Sean Payton said when Webb was hired in 2023. “Brian Daboll, Eli Manning, I spoke to a number of people. I kept hearing the same things about him, so we brought him in. … I remember him as a player, but I didn’t know him at all. He did a really good job. … He’s a coach’s kid, Davis is. He had a file on his computer of every game plan that he’s ever had since he was in high school, then college, then Texas Tech. Then, Mahomes comes in and then he transfers. It was really impressive just going through the process.”
The Raiders conducted a second interview with Webb on January 26.
