There’s a new regime in the Pittsburgh Steelers, as Mike McCarthy has become the fourth head coach hired since 1969 — and he’s bringing his brand of football to the Black and Gold offense.
In his introductory press conference, McCarthy set the record straight when asked if he’d take over offensive play-calling in Pittsburgh.
“Definitely, I will call the plays on offense,” McCarthy said. “And obviously, will run the offense.”
McCarthy’s comments come as no surprise, as he’s played a huge role in leading some near-historic offenses, such as the 2021 Dallas Cowboys, who ranked No. 1 in total yards and total points.
Pittsburgh is clearly hopeful McCarthy can help steer their offense back on course, as well as assist in quarterback development, as the Steelers brace for a new era in mostly uncharted waters.
