FORMER PACKERS EXEC ON MCCARTHY
Mike McCarthy has been a head coach for three different teams in the NFL. First, he was with the Green Bay Packers, getting fired in 2018. Then, he joined the Dallas Cowboys in 2020. Now, he’s the head coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers, his hometown team. While McCarthy has made many stops around the league, he’s never forgotten his roots.
Former Packers executive Andrew Brandt shared a story on Twitter that exemplified that. He was their vice president when they hired McCarthy, and according to Brandt, the coach’s Pittsburgh roots came up in the interview. McCarthy saw himself as “just a football guy from Pittsburgh.” Now, he’s a football guy for Pittsburgh.

STRAHAN PRAISES FORMER STEELERS OL
The Steelers have seen several legendary offensive linemen play for them over the years. That includes Mike Webster, Dermontti Dawson, and Alan Faneca. However, they’ve also had some more underrated players in the trenches. That includes Leon Searcy, who was with the team from 1992-1995.
Hall of Fame pass rusher Michael Strahan recently offered Searcy some praise. Appearing on the New Heights podcast, Strahan listed Searcy as one of the toughest players that he played against. While Searcy was solid with the Steelers, he was better with the Jacksonville Jaguars, who he was with from 1996-2000. Strahan is an all-time great, so his compliment to Searcy speaks volumes.
BROWNS OL COACH
The Steelers’ coaching staff is starting to come together. They’ve identified some names to add, while also keeping some of the coaches who were with the team last year. However, they aren’t the only AFC North team building a new coaching staff. The Cleveland Browns recently hired a new head coach, so they’re beginning to assemble their coaching staff. They’ve already got one spot locked down.
ESPN Insider Adam Schefter reported on Twitter that the Browns are hiring George Warhop to be their offensive line coach. Warhop spent the last two seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, so not only did the Browns fill a position on their staff, but they also hurt a division foe.
Another hire in Cleveland: Browns HC Todd Monken is bringing former Ravens OL coach George Warhop with him to the Browns to coach the same position, per sources.
