The Cleveland Browns have found their new head coach, hiring Todd Monken for their head coach position for the next five years.

Monken is an offensive mind who, with the Baltimore Ravens, called plays for an offense that ranked no lower than 11th in the league in points scored the last three years. It’s a solid hire for the offensive side of the ball.

But former NFL player Emmanuel Acho on The Speakeasy podcast called for Shedeur Sanders to do something completely absurd with Monken. It’s such a ridiculous statement, it’s hard to believe it’s not a joke.

Emmanuel Acho asks absurd Shedeur Sanders, Todd Monken questions

“How is Todd Monken going to command that locker room, command that group of men?” Acho said.”And also, if I’m Shedeur (Sanders) or anybody in that locker room, why am I listening to Todd Monken? What have you won on an NFL level as a head coach?”

There are multiple things wrong with this comment from Acho. But the most glaring and obvious issue is that Monken, like any other first-time head coach, will need to build up rapport with his new team.

Only someone like Jim Schwartz, who was already on the team, would have an easier path to winning over the locker room.

And while the Browns might not have hired the next Ben Johnson or Mike Vrabel, Monken is still an experienced coach who’s helped make a few standout teams over the years, including at Georgia and with the Ravens.

For Acho to question if Sanders, who might not even start at quarterback next year for the Browns, and the rest of the roster should listen to Monken is a wild comment to make.

So many great head coaching candidates in the league haven’t been head coaches before. Some former head coach types return to the job after some time away, but not all of them pan out as good hires.

Monken will need to win over the locker room, and while it might not be easy, for Acho, a former NFL player, to say that Sanders and the Browns shouldn’t listen to Monken is an absurd comment to make.

He’s not even been with the team for a day yet. It takes time to build rapport with a new team. Acho’s comment is an absurd one, and highlights just how long of an offseason it’s going to be for the Browns.
