People all over Illinois still haven’t emotionally recovered from the reality that another Super Bowl will be taking place without the Chicago Bears, but a little bear love will still be a part of the Big Game on February 8.
Super Bowl Excitement
Normally, I only watch the Super Bowl as an excuse to eat snacks and watch funny commercials, but even I was slightly crushed that the Chicago Bears got so close to making it to the Big Game this year.
It has been 40 years since the Chicago Bears last won the Super Bowl, and many fans, including myself, believed all the stars were aligning for another championship year.
Well, obviously, the Chicago Bears didn’t make the Super Bowl, but bears did in the most karmic way possible, and that fact feels like a win.
Please allow me to explain.
Nature Calls Beer
For the first time in brewing history, Columbia Sportswear and Breakside Brewery in Oregon have teamed up to create the very first beer made with…bear poop. (LOL!)
Yes, you read that correctly. Bear poop beer, wittily named “Nature Calls”.
Columbia Sportswear’s website says:
With Columbia Sportswear you can enjoy the sh*ttiest parts of nature. So it stands to reason that we could even start with bear poop and end up with something delectable. Introducing Nature Calls, a Big Game beer brewed by our friends at Breakside Brewery. It’s smooth and satisfying, with notes of honey and huckleberry.
Apparently, Columbia sent people into the woods to collect actual American black bear scat, mixed it with brewing water, sanitized it (thank God!), and turned it into a beer that actually sounds appealing.
Where To Get Nature Calls Beer
If you’re really amped to try Nature Calls beer and you live in Illinois, here comes the bad news part.
The beer will be served at the Super Bowl tailgate in California and at Breakside breweries in Oregon, but is not available for purchase in stores or online…yet.
I guess us Illinoisans will just have to continue cracking open perfectly normal beers, wondering how a season with so much promise ended with us watching people drink poop-adjacent beers on football’s biggest stage.
