There’s no shortage of opinions about North Carolina head coach Bill Belichick and his girlfriend Jordon Hudson. But what does Belichick’s boss, the UNC-Chapel Hill Chancellor, think of the publicity the relationship has been getting?
In a recent interview, North Carolina Chancellor Lee Roberts dismissed the idea that the drama is a bad thing. Roberts is actually delighted by all of the attention the football program is getting and is happy to see that the tickets have all sold out despite a price increase.

“We wanted when we hired Coach Belichick, to bring Carolina football to another level… We increased the price of our season tickets and we sold them out… We’re delighted about all the attention being paid to Carolina football.”
It seems based on that statement that Roberts believes in the old adage that “all publicity is good publicity.”
From a money-making standpoint that certainly seems to be the case. The Tar Heels are going to be must-see TV in 2025 thanks to Belichick’s offseason drama – whether the team is good or not – which will likely result in a few extra primetime games this fall.

But that doesn’t mean that everyone agrees with Roberts. Plenty of people were stunned that he would say such a thing publicly.
“What a wild thing to say out loud,” one user remarked on X.
“Jerry Jones could not have said it better if he was talking about the Cowboys…” wrote another.
“For real?”

The sports media landscape has seemingly been consumed by discussions about Belichick and Hudson in the week since that infamous CBS Mornings interview.
North Carolina’s season opener against TCU is already scheduled for a Monday night primetime showing on ESPN. In most years one primetime game would already be more than they’re accustomed to. But it probably won’t be the last.

The Tar Heels have games against powerhouses such as Clemson and Syracuse, not to mention their rivalry game against Duke. Any one of those three games could get a primetime bump or even host College GameDay, which will really let UNC rake in the dough.
Do you think the Belichick drama is good for UNC or bad for it?
