The Buffalo Bills have their new head coach in place, and may get an unexpected opportunity to land a top offensive coordinator.
Joe Brady held his introductory press conference on Thursday, laying out his vision for the team and sharing praise for recently fired Sean McDermott. Brady is now working to put together his staff, which could include a former Bills quarterback who is seen as a hot coaching candidate.
Bills Could Offer OC Job to Former Backup
The Bills cast a wide net in searching for a new coach, interviewing several candidates including former backup quarterback Davis Webb. Though Brady ultimately landed the job, Webb is still available for the now-vacant offensive coordinator job after a surprise move.
As ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported, Webb pulled out of consideration for a head coaching job just hours after Brady met with reporters for the first time as Bills head coach.
“Broncos passing game coordinator Davis Webb is withdrawing from consideration from the Raiders head coaching job, per source. Webb interviewed for head coaching jobs with the Raiders, Bills and Ravens,” Schefter reported.
Webb served as backup to Bills quarterback Josh Allen for several years until being poached from the team’s practice squad by the New York Giants. He moved into coaching, having served as passing game coordinator for the Broncos.
The Bills would likely have some competition if they want to land Webb. NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reported that Webb could be in line for a promotion with the Broncos.
“#Broncos QBs coach Davis Webb plans to withdraw from the #Raiders head coaching search and is considered a prime candidate for his current team’s OC job, source say. He’s also received several OC requests,” Rapoport shared in a post on X.
