Broncos coach Sean Payton joked Tuesday that if assistant head coach Davis Webb left to become the Las Vegas Raiders’ head coach, “it would be a pain in the [butt]” for Webb to turn around and face his old team twice in one season.

But now, that’s off the table.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Webb removed himself from consideration to replace Pete Carroll on the Las Vegas sideline, a move that comes as the Raiders appear to be consolidating their search around Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, a former Broncos assistant who worked with the club at the same time as current Raiders general manager John Spytek a decade ago.

Webb has interviewed for multiple head-coaching positions this cycle and has received interview requests for offensive-coordinator positions this week.
