The Indianapolis Colts are one step closer to retaining offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter.
The Philadelphia Eagles had brought in Cooter for an in-person interview for their offensive coordinator opening — a sign that the team was very interested in hiring him.

Cooter is familiar with Nick Sirianni, having been on his staff as an offensive consultant in 2021. Shane Steichen was also Sirianni’s offensive coordinator before becoming the Colts‘ head coach.
However, it’s now been reported that the Eagles are going in a different direction, hiring Green Bay quarterbacks coach Sean Mannion.
Cooter will not end up with the Eagles, however, the New York Giants also plan to interview him, so it’s still possible at this time that the Colts end up with an opening at offensive coordinator.
Although Cooter already holds the title of offensive coordinator with the Colts, one likely difference between that role and the Eagles’ and Giants’ jobs is that those would come with play-calling duties, providing Cooter with a step up in responsibility.

This season, the Colts’ offense finished eighth in points per game scored and eighth in yards per play.
Through the first half of the season, the Colts had one of the most productive offenses in football, with a scheme that was hard to defend.
Cooter has been with the Colts in this role since 2023.
