Colorado Buffaloes defensive coordinator Robert Livingston is drawing NFL interest, per ESPN’s Todd Archer, who covers the Dallas Cowboys. Archer reports that Livingston has an in-person interview with the Cowboys on Thursday for a potential role on new defensive coordinator Christian Parker’s staff.
Livingston’s presence on the Cowboys’ interview list should not come as a surprise, as he was previously the Bengals’ safeties coach before coming to Boulder. For Colorado and Deion Sanders, the late January interest represents a potential challenge. Livingston turned the CU defense around in 2024, only for it to take a step back last season. Still, his overall tenure in Boulder has generally been considered a success, bringing an NFL structure and experience to Boulder. His departure just a couple of months before spring camp begins would be a massive loss and would require Sanders to either promote someone from the current staff or find someone quickly.

If Livingston were to depart, it would mark another offseason transition for a Colorado program already navigating roster turnover and several other staff changes, including at the offensive coordinator position. Any potential replacement would be a fascinating hire for Sanders, given the timing and his penchant for splashy candidates.
Whether Livingston ultimately returns to the NFL likely remains a question over the next few days as the Cowboys sort through several qualified candidates. However, it turns out, the interest is further evidence that the Buffs’ coaching staff is gaining respect beyond college football.
