Ouch. Matt Zenitz reports for CBS Sports that Jahri Evans is expected to take a new job with the Pittsburgh Steelers after working with the New Orleans Saints the last four years. Evans, a finalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2026, has held the title of assistant offensive line coach during his time with the Saints. Whether this is a promotion or a lateral move remains to be seen. It was previously reported that the Steelers hoped to speak with Evans about a job, but now it seems they’ve sealed the deal.

It hurts to see one of the most accomplished people in the organization move on, but it makes sense from Evans’ perspective. If he wasn’t going to get to run the position group himself in New Orleans, Pittsburgh would be a better opportunity. That he gets to move closer to home (he’s a Pennsylvania native who went to college at Bloomsburg in Philadelphia) and work with a coach he knows well only reinforces that decision. Evans spent the last year of his playing career on the Green Bay Packers under Mike McCarthy. Now he’s joining McCarthy’s coaching staff.

Evans was one of the few assistants Kellen Moore retained after taking over from Dennis Allen last offseason, so he was clearly a respected presence in New Orleans even with a change in leadership. But if Evans has bigger ambitions than just being an assistant coach, he may have had to move elsewhere. Good luck to him in Pittsburgh.
