Sean Payton

Following the Denver Broncos’ loss in the playoffs to the New England Patriots, things are starting to fully unravel for them. Especially when it comes to their head coach, Sean Payton.

*Prediction*

The Broncos need to start thinking about moving on from Sean Payton as the head coach, and the best candidate to replace him is Kliff Kingsbury.

The situation in Denver is starting to enter rocky territory. After the loss, Sean Payton went on to fire the offensive coordinator, Joe Lombardi, despite the team having the success they did last season. Lombardi after being fired went on to say, “Sean decided to move on, and I guess that’s all there is to say. I don’t think it’s ever a surprise (in the NFL). Not really. … I think you could tell he (Payton) was in one of those moods where he felt like some changes needed to be made and I guess he decided one of those was me. So I’ve been around him long enough to kind of read the tea leaves, I guess.”

The move was impulsive by Sean Payton, and to make matters worse, he ruffled feathers with his quarterback, Bo Nix. Payton did so when he went on to say Bo Nix’s injury was “predisposed.”  Nix went on to comment back with “Nothing predisposed, nothing that was there originally,” and also “I don’t think he really should share how many surgeries I’ve had in the past, to be honest with you — he doesn’t even really know that,” when referring directly to Payton.

It is clear that issues are starting up under Sean Payton as the head coach, and before things totally go wrong, Denver needs to move on from Sean Payton. At this point in the head coach hiring cycle, not many top names remain if the Broncos were to do so, but one candidate they can turn to is Kliff Kingsbury.

With Kliff Kingsbury having been a head coach before, he brings the experience needed to slot in right away. Kingsbury is also offensive-minded, so that would further help Nix and the offense for Denver continue to be a consistent unit, and also reach new heights.

Kliff Kingsbury would bring a modernized offense, and way of coaching to Denver, which is something they need at the moment.
