The Pittsburgh Steelers have hired former Dallas Cowboys assistant offensive line coach Ramon Chinyoung as the team’s new running backs coach, per beat writer Clarence Hill Jr.
Hill reported earlier today that Chinyoung was in Pittsburgh to interview for a job.

Despite his background coaching offensive linemen, Chinyoung is the team’s new running backs coach, officially replacing Eddie Faulkner. It’s a mildly surprising outcome that Chinyoung is working with the running backs instead of becoming the assistant offensive line coach to James Campen. Assuming an assistant o-line coach is hired, it will be someone other than Chinyoung.
Hired by Mike McCarthy in 2023, Chinyoung spent the past three seasons working with Dallas’s offensive line. There, he helped develop high-round draft picks like Tyler Booker, Tyler Guyton, and Cooper Beebe. He broke into the NFL one year earlier as a quality control coach for the Denver Broncos.
Before the NFL, Chinyoung spent a decade coaching high school football in Texas. That included two years as the head coach of Fort Bend Willowridge High School in Houston, Texas, where he had to navigate the 2020 COVID year. This YouTube video details that experience.
Faulkner served as Pittsburgh’s running backs coach since 2019. He was a quality coach who developed Najee Harris, Jaylen Warren, and helped orchestrate Kenneth Gainwell’s career season in 2025. It’s unclear where he will end up. Perhaps he goes to Baltimore and works with new Ravens’ offensive line coach Dwayne Ledford. The two spent time together at NC State.
Before Mike McCarthy’s hire, Jaylen Warren issued a rare social media post expressing a desire for Faulkner to return. Instead, Chinyoung will coach him in 2026. Kaleb Johnson will return after a disappointing rookie season. Gainwell is a pending free agent.
Chinyoung is the third external positional coach to be hired. He joins Campen and wide receivers coach Adam Henry. Holdovers from the Steelers’ 2025 staff include QBs Coach Tom Arth, ILBs Coach Scott McCurley, and DBs Coach Gerald Alexander.
