The Miami Dolphins are hiring Nathaniel Hackett as their new quarterbacks coach, as pre Dan Graziano of ESPN.
Hackett has over 20 years of NFL and college football experience as a coach, most recently working for the Green Bay Packers as a defensive analyst for the 2025 season, under current Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley. Before that, Hackett spent two years with the New York Jets as their offensive coordinator, hand picked by then-quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

However, Hackett is probably most known around the NFL for his stint with the Denver Broncos. In 2022, Hackett was hired as the head coach of the Broncos, tasked with rebuilding the team around star free agent signing, Russell Wilson. Hackett finished 4-11 that year, and was let go before the final regular season game. It was a disastrous tenure for Hackett, who very publicly struggled with clock management.
Luckily, he won’t have the same responsibilities in Miami. By all accounts, Hackett is well respected around the league as an offensive mind, and was the offensive coordinator of the Green Bay Packers from 2019-2021. In those years, the Packers’ offense was among the league’s best, as Aaron Rogers won back-to-back MVP awards.
In Miami, Hackett will work closely with newly-promoted offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik, and the Dolphins’ starting quarterback, whoever that may be. For now, the future of Tua Tagovailoa is still up the air. If he comes back, Hackett will be tasked with helping Tagovailoa rediscover the 2022 and 2023 versions of himself.
