Eagles Hire Sean Mannion as New Offensive Coordinator

The Philadelphia Eagles announced Thursday night that Sean Mannion has been hired as the team’s new offensive coordinator, formally beginning a new phase for the organization’s offense.

Mannion, 33, joins the Eagles from the Green Bay Packers, where he served as quarterbacks coach. Despite having just two years of coaching experience, he will immediately assume play-calling responsibilities in Philadelphia. He replaces Kevin Patullo, whose one-year tenure as offensive coordinator ended on January 13, following a season in which the Eagles’ offense declined one year after the team’s Super Bowl victory.

The hiring followed a two-week interview process in which the Eagles reportedly interviewed more than a dozen candidates. The search was narrowed to at least four finalists: Sean Mannion, Jim Bob Cooter, Josh Grizzard, and Jerrod Johnson. Head coach Nick Sirianni said the organization conducted a comprehensive evaluation of candidates before making its decision.

“My goal throughout this process was to operate with an open mind regarding the future of our offense to find the best fit for the Eagles,” Sirianni said. “Over the last few weeks, I had an opportunity to meet with a number of talented candidates and great offensive minds.”

Sirianni said Mannion stood out during the interview process.

“It was quickly apparent in meeting with Sean that he is a bright young coach with a tremendous future ahead of him in this league,” Sirianni said. “I was impressed by his systematic views on offensive football and his strategic approach.”

Mannion began his coaching career in 2024 as an offensive assistant with the Packers under head coach Matt LaFleur. In 2025, he was promoted to quarterbacks coach following the retirement of Tom Clements, placing him in direct developmental roles with Jordan Love and Malik Willis. Willis, 26, showed improvement during his time in Green Bay after struggling with the Tennessee Titans, completing 30 of 35 passes for 422 yards, with three touchdowns and no interceptions in four games last season.

The coaching change comes as the Eagles’ positioning in betting markets remains closely tracked. At DraftKings Sportsbook, Philadelphia is currently listed at +1300 to win Super Bowl LX. Other major sportsbooks, including BetMGM, FanDuel, and Caesars, have posted the Eagles in a similar range, generally between +700 and +1300, depending on the book and timing of the odds release. Earlier in the betting cycle, sportsbooks had listed the Eagles as short as +650 in Super Bowl futures before the 2025 season progressed.

Player markets show similar movement. Jalen Hurts has appeared on MVP boards tracked by betting outlets such as Action Network with low single-digit implied probability. BetMGM previously listed Hurts near +2000 in MVP odds. Eagles games continue to attract betting action across spreads, moneylines, and player props, with team futures, division odds, and championship markets remaining active across major sportsbooks.

Before entering coaching, Mannion played nine NFL seasons from 2015 to 2023. He was drafted by the St. Louis Rams in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft as the 89th overall pick, and later spent time with the Minnesota Vikings and Seattle Seahawks. During his career, he made 14 total appearances and started three games.

His collegiate career was spent at Oregon State, where he played 47 games over four seasons and set nearly every school passing record. His 13,600 career passing yards rank in the top 20 in FBS history.

Mannion becomes the fifth offensive coordinator to work under Sirianni since he became head coach. The decision followed a season in which the Eagles ranked 19th in scoring, 24th in total yards, and 13th in expected points added per play under Patullo’s direction.

Mannion’s football background includes experience within multiple coaching systems. As both a player and coach, he has worked under members of the Kyle Shanahan coaching tree, including Sean McVay of the Rams, Kevin O’Connell of the Vikings, and Zac Taylor of the Bengals, along with Matt LaFleur in Green Bay.

The hiring has also drawn internal historical comparison to 1999, when the Eagles hired Andy Reid, then the Packers’ quarterbacks coach, as head coach. Reid went on to serve as Eagles head coach for 14 years.

Mannion will now begin the process of installing his offensive system and building working relationships with the roster, including quarterback Jalen Hurts, as he prepares for his first season calling plays at the NFL level. Sirianni said he was “thrilled” to add Mannion to the staff and formally welcomed Sean Mannion and his wife, Megan, to the Eagles family.
