The Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly set to hire their next defensive coordinator in place of Teryl Austin, and one of his potential landing spots just slammed the door shut.
On Friday, the Washington Commanders officially announced former Minnesota Vikings defensive backs coach/pass game coordinator Daronte Jones would become their next DC, despite hosting Austin for an interview a little over a week ago.
Many Steelers fans have clamored for Austin’s departure, as he somehow managed to make less with more during his tenure as Pittsburgh’s defensive coordinator. It’s clear that the Commanders preferred Jones and his almost two and a half decades of coaching experience.

Luckily, McCarthy’s coaching staff is reportedly set to bring in Raiders DC Patrick Graham as the Steelers’ next defensive coordinator, with Austin now seemingly on the outside looking in with two organizations.
