The Miami Dolphins are in rebuild mode and have numerous important decisions to make concerning the team’s future in the tough AFC East. The New England Patriots have made it to the Super Bowl and the Buffalo Bills are always dangerous.
*PREDICTION*
The Dolphins have fired their head coach and are expected to likely move on from Tua Tagovailoa, who has been the starter for the past five seasons.
The Dolphins should look to trade away any valuable assets, especially pieces they will be unwilling to pay a second contract during rebuilding years.
Running backs are easy to come by nowadays, and not many are willing to spend big on the position as rookie running backs are having early success on such cheap deals.
The Los Angeles Chargers would be the perfect landing spot for one of the league’s most intriguing running backs.

De’Von Achane Traded To the Los Angeles Chargers
The Los Angeles Chargers have just hired former Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel to be their next offensive coordinator. Head coach Jim Harbaugh is big on the old-school style of football, running the ball first with toughness and physicality. The Chargers want to run the ball and will need a group of running backs to help share the workload.
Rookies Omarion Hampton and Kimani Vidal were the primary backs, but the Chargers saw multiple players play the position in 2025 due to several injuries throughout the year. Adding another running back on a rookie deal would create a deadly rotation for the Chargers.
Achane quickly rose to one of the best running backs in the game with his blazing speed, elusiveness, and ability to be a part of the receiving game under Mike McDaniel.
In 2025 alone, Achane rushed for 1,350 yards and eight rushing touchdowns and caught 67 passes for 488 yards and four more touchdowns. Pairing Achane with Hampton and Vidal would allow for more unique play-calling and formation opportunities while also leaving Achane to be both a receiving and running threat.
Giving Justin Herbert as much help as possible will be the main goal for the Los Angeles Chargers, and adding Achane will give the Chargers the deadliest rushing attack in the NFL.
The Chargers will still have Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt in 2026 after they return from injury, so the offensive line play should improve dramatically. This should make the Chargers an easy contender to win it all in 2026, especially if they add Achane.
Potential Trade Package
A running back in the final year of their deal may result in a chance for the Dolphins to get a solid return from whichever team they could trade him to. There have been many running backs on rookie contracts who have been traded as of late, with many returning anywhere from a fifth to a seventh round pick.
Achane, being one of the best potential picks on the market, should return closer to a second-round pick. Running backs have short shelf lives, and many teams are unwilling to sign to long-term deals.
The Los Angeles Chargers should try to get that value down to a third, but they should still be open to giving up a second-round pick with a pick swap included.
The Chargers need to maximize their time with Herbert and give him a quality chance in the postseason. Adding Achane and extending him while pairing him with Hampton and Vidal would create a valuable room for years to come, and with such quality depth.
The Dolphins need to maximize the value they can get from their players, and the Chargers should absolutely look to add talent and protection around Herbert.
The Chargers’ defense is capable of competing now, and Herbert is a quality quarterback to have on a championship-level team. They should create the best roster for Mike McDaniel to play with, and the Chargers should control the clock and scoreboard by a ton of points.
