The Philadelphia Eagles fell short in their bid to repeat as Super Bowl champions, dropping a 23-19 home loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the wild-card round of the NFL playoffs. The defeat brought a frustrating end to their season and ultimately led to a coaching shakeup that has now been finalized.

Following the loss, the Eagles decided to fire Kevin Patullo earlier this month, moving on from him as offensive coordinator after a season in which the offense frequently stalled and struggled to score consistently.

Patullo previously held the roles of pass game coordinator and associate head coach before being elevated to offensive coordinator, replacing Kellen Moore ahead of the season.

Now, the team appears to have its replacement in place, bringing in a new voice to run the offense as Philadelphia looks to make another Super Bowl run next year.

On Thursday, the Eagles officially announced the hiring of former Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach Sean Mannion as their new offensive coordinator, filling the vacancy left by Patullo.

“I’m thrilled to have Sean Mannion on board as the new offensive coordinator of the Philadelphia Eagles,” Head Coach Nick Sirianni said in the announcement this week. “My goal throughout this process was to operate with an open mind regarding the future of our offense to find the best fit for the Eagles. Over the last few weeks, I had an opportunity to meet with a number of talented candidates and great offensive minds. I am appreciative of the time I was able to spend with each of them. Some came with years of experience running an offense and calling plays. Others were young, sharp, and dynamic coaches on the rise. I felt it was important to be patient and thorough to allow the right fit to reveal himself to us. Sean did just that.

“It was quickly apparent in meeting with Sean that he is a bright young coach with a tremendous future ahead of him in this league. I was impressed by his systematic views on offensive football and his strategic approach. Sean’s 11 years in the NFL have provided him a great opportunity to learn from and grow alongside some of the best coaches in the game. As a result, he has a wealth of knowledge and experience that will be invaluable to our team moving forward. I can’t wait to see Sean with our team, and I want to welcome him and his wife, Megan, to the Eagles family.”

Needless to say, this move led to a lot of reactions on social media.

“We will either circle back to this tweet because Sirianni is fired or holding another Lombardi. No in between,” one fan wrote in a post on X.

“This could be the greatest hire ever or the biggest disaster in franchise history,” someone else added.

“I don’t get why a team with Super Bowl aspirations are taking a gamble on a guy. If it works, good, if not you are wasting years of solid offensive talent,” another fan wrote.

A former QB but has never called plays. Maybe he can read a defense and throw in an audible here or there idk but I’ll give him a chance. Gotta be better than KP at least,” someone else wrote.

“Everyone deserves a chance to show the world what they have in their respective field. That being said, this man has never been an offensive coordinator.. and just left the league around 2024. Who does homie know?” another fan wrote.

We’ll have to see how Mannion performs in his new role and whether or not he can spark a significant change in the Eagles’ offense.
