Besides the hiring of Robert Saleh, much of the hype surrounding the Tennessee Titans this week has been focused on the offensive staff that is being assembled in Nashville, and rightfully so. The hiring of veteran coordinator and former New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll brings in an established coach with a history of developing young quarterbacks.

While Daboll’s hire (and his assistants) has been the big news, the makeup of Saleh’s defensive staff remains a mystery. The Titans have reportedly brought in Aaron Whitecotton as run-game coordinator/defensive line coach and retained Tony Oden as pass-game coordinator/ cornerbacks, but outside of that, there have only been passing mentions of potential coordinator candidates.

Now, a day after his introductory press conference, a new staff position has been uncovered that will bring another new face to Nashville. Veteran reporter Paul Kuharsky took to social media to report that Saleh intends to hire a full-time nickel back coach heading into the 2026 season.

This is nothing new in the NFL, with multiple teams creating a specialty coaching position as the slot role grows in importance as offenses evolve, but it will be the first time an official position like this exists with the Titans. At this point, the coach who will fill the position remains unknown, but one would expect a name to surface in the coming days.
