Jesse Minter is known for his defensive prowess, and he’ll likely lean heavily on his offensive staff as he takes over his first head coaching job with the Baltimore Ravens. And now, Minter has found his offensive coordinator.
On Friday, it was announced that the Ravens will be hiring current Bears offensive coordinator Declan Doyle in the same role. Doyle does not call the plays in Chicago, with head coach Ben Johnson heavily involved in the system. Now, he will get his first opportunity as a playcaller in the NFL.
At 29, Doyle will be the youngest offensive play-caller in the NFL with the move, and he has just seven seasons of NFL assistant experience. He helped lead a Bears offense that finished sixth in the NFL in total offense and ninth in scoring this past season, a season that saw the Bears win the NFC North for the first time since 2018 and advance to the playoffs.
Doyle was previously a tight ends coach with the Broncos from 2023-2024, and an offensive assistant with the Saints from 2019-2022. When asked on Thursday what he was looking for in his first offensive coordinator, Minter said that he was “looking for a connector and an innovator, and a scheme builder around the best player in the world.”
