The Buffalo Bills and new head coach Joe Brady have found the team’s next special teams coordinator, hiring Jeff Rodgers per a report by Dianna Russini. Rodgers had previously coached with the Arizona Cardinals since 2018, where most recently he was the team’s assistant head coach/special teams coordinator.

As a coach, Rodgers brings a wealth of experience to One Bills Drive. His first foray into coaching was as a graduate assistant with the University of Arizona football team from 2001 through 2002. Rodgers quickly made his way to coaching in the NFL, first as a special teams quality control coach for the San Francisco 49ers (2003-2004), then later as the Niners’ assistant special teams coach (2005-2007).

Rodgers briefly returned to the college ranks, accepting the role of special teams coordinator for Kansas State for the 2008 season. From there, Rodgers joined the Carolina Panthers as a special teams assistant in 2009 before a promotion to special teams coordinator during the Panthers’ 2010 season. The next season, Rodgers accepted the role of special teams coordinator with the Denver Broncos, a position he held from 2011 through the 2014 NFL seasons.

He then left Denver after being named the special teams coordinator for the Chicago Bears (2015-2017), which ultimately led to his tenure with the Cardinals. In Arizona, Rodgers first held the role of special teams coordinator (2018), then was promoted to assistant head coach/special teams coordinator — a title he held from 2019 through the 2025 seasons and through three head coaching changes.

What remains unclear is whether Rodgers will also have the title of assistant head coach, if Russini’s report that he’s being hired “for the same role” applies in total to his responsibilities with the Cardinals.
