What were you doing in 2015? I was writing for FootballScoop. The man who on Friday was named the offensive coordinator of the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens was beginning his career… his junior college baseball career.

Declan Doyle, captain of the Iowa Western Community College baseball team, transferred to Iowa in 2016, where he was a student assistant for the Hawkeyes’ offensive staff. (Doyle is the son of former Iowa strength coach Chris Doyle.)

From there, he landed an offensive assistant job with the New Orleans Saints. Four years in New Orleans led to the tight ends job with the Denver Broncos. Two seasons in Denver led to the offensive coordinator job for the Chicago Bears, under the eye of play-calling head coach Ben Johnson.

On Friday, new Ravens head coach Jesse Minter, a defensive hire, appointed the 29-year-old Doyle as his offensive coordinator in Baltimore. His primary task will be to get the 2-time NFL MVP, 29-year-old Lamar Jackson to his first Super Bowl.

Doyle, who was also in the running for the offensive coordinator job in Philadelphia, beat some of the NFL’s most respected up-and-coming coaches out for the job. Which officially makes Doyle the most respected up-and-coming coach in the NFL.Â
