GREEN BAY, Wis. (WMTV) – We are deep in the Packers off season, but football never stops!
Third year receiver Jayden Reed likes to say the ball finds good energy. Passing game coordinator/ wide receivers coach Jason Vrable complimented Reed’s leadership with the young guys during the offseason program.
Meanwhile a report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that GM Brian Gutekunst met with Reed’s agent Drew Rosenaus following the draft to reassure Reed’s camp the new additions won’t affect Reed’s status as the top receiver.
When it comes to balancing and leading a young receiver room, Vrable leans on some advice he got as a young coach.
“Treat every player like your son and you’ll become a great coach,” Vrable said. “I just try to do the same thing. I know there’s human element and emotion to everything that we do. I’m not going to ever train a robot. I don’t want to be robot receivers or robot people. If you truly put in the work with people, and you develop them the right way and you love them the right way; then you can listen and you can communicate at a high level, and we can both achieve our goals along the way. There’s going to be ups and downs with everything that we have. I know right now we’re deep as we’ve been in our receiver room in my mind in probably four or five years. Maybe even better than that.”
The Packers preseason will start on August 9 at 7:00 against the New York Jets, with the Week 1 against the Detroit Lions on Sunday, September 7 at 3:25.
