Sean Payton, for many years, was an integral piece of the New Orleans Saints remaining competitive for a long period of time, alongside the success of Drew Brees. His coaching tree was initially considered to be quite lacking, though, as he was never really someone who produced a ton of branches on his tree, so to speak, instead being someone who retained the best of the best in many cases.
However, over the past few seasons, that has changed quite a bit, as the NFL continues to cycle some variation of the same candidates, many Saints coaches are getting their rounds as head coaches. Recently, a fan on social media noted the connections back to the 2018 New Orleans staff, and where they have headed since then:
This staff has also produced an exceptional number of other positions, such as Darren Rizzi as interim head coach, and over the years, names like Doug Marrone have taken head coaching gigs despite not being on that 2018 staff specifically. Payton has started to build his own legacy with the Denver Broncos, and Kellen Moore has taken over for the foreseeable future with the Saints, so both sides have wound up with positives. Assistants like Declan Doyle, Pete Carmichael Jr., Joe Lombardi, and Ronald Curry have either been hired as offensive coordinators or interviewed for openings, too.

Knowing there are four current NFL head coaches from that one year’s staff is truly astounding, though, as well as one former general manager and head coach on top of that. It will be interesting to see if any other members of that staff will make it to be a head coach as well, but Payton has certainly seen some names develop as the years go on.
