The Atlanta Falcons are adding another experienced coach to Kevin Stefanki’s staff. According to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapopport, the team is hiring former New York Jets offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand as passing-game coordinator.

Engrstrand spent five seasons as an assistant for the Detroit Lions (2020-2024), coaching under Ben Johnson and Dan Campbell for one of the NFL’s most prolific offensive units over that span. When New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn was hired in 2025, he brought Engstrand with him as offensive coordinator.

The Jets offense struggled to score points but finished 10th in rushing yards. However, Engstrand was fired after the season ended. The Falcons will also reportedly hire Alex Van Pelt as their quarterbacks coach.

Van Pelt worked with Stefanski in Cleveland, spending four seasons as the Browns offensive coordinator (2020-2023) and one year as quarterbacks coach.

The Falcons’ offensive staff is quickly coming together, with former Browns offensive coordinator Tommy Rees taking the same position in Atlanta. Rees will call plays, according to Stefanski. Jeff Ulbrich is also back as defensive coordinator, along with most of his staff.

Next up, the team can start to plan for free agency. According to Over The Cap’s projections, the Falcons have around $25.4 million available after the NFL’s projected cap space jump in 2026.
