Another member of Jonathan Gannon’s coaching staff with the Arizona Cardinals has found other work. While Gannon, fired as head coach after the Cardinals went 3-14 in 2025, landed with the Green Bay Packers as their defensive coordinator, Ryan Smith, who was the Cardinals’ cornerbacks coach for three seasons, is landing with the Dallas Cowboys.

According to Todd Archer, the Cowboys agreed to terms with Smith to be their secondary coach. He will work with all the defensive backs.

Before joining the Cardinals in 2023, Smith coached in the college ranks. In 2022, he coached cornerbacks for Northwestern. In 2020-2021, he was at Virginia Tech coaching cornerbacks and, in 2021, working as the defensive pass game coordinator. He worked with safeties at James Madison in 2019 and the secondary in 2018 with Elon University. He was a defensive graduate assistant at Penn State in 2015-16 and at UTSA in 2014.

Where are the Cardinals’ coaches from last season

He isn’t the only coach from Arizona’s staff to land elsewhere.
