Packers announce multi-year extensions for Gutekunst, LaFleur, and Ball

  • February 1, 2026

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WMTV) – The Green Bay Packers President Ed Policy announced multi-year extensions Friday for General Manager Brian Gutekunst, Head Coach Matt LaFleur and Executive Vice President/Director of Football Operations Russ Ball.

“We are excited to extend our commitment to Brian, Matt and Russ as the leaders of our football operations,” Policy said. “Their steadfast dedication, passion and collaboration have remained constant in our drive to compete at the highest level.”

Policy made note of the widespread disappointment of Packers fans, after falling short early in the postseason in their NFC Divisional Round loss to the Chicago Bears.

However, Policy remains confident in the direction he sees the franchise going in.

“While we are all disappointed with the way this season ended, we remain aligned in purpose and have spent considerable time over the past weeks collaborating on a path forward,” Policy said. “I am exceedingly confident we have the right people to achieve our goal.”

The three in their time with Green Bay have led the Packers to six playoff appearances in the last seven years, tying for the second-most in the NFL during that span behind the Buffalo Bills’ seven.

Under Gutekunst’s 27 seasons with the team and eight as General Manager, the Packers rank tied for first in playoff appearances (19) and second in division titles (12). His tenure includes six NFC Championship Game appearances and a Super Bowl XLV victory.

LaFleur has compiled 76 regular-season wins in his first seven seasons, which is tied for second-most in NFL history behind George Seifert’s 86. His .654 winning percentage ranks fourth among active head coaches with at least 50 games.

Since 2019, the Packers have posted the third-best regular-season record in the NFL and the top mark in the NFC.

Ball, entering his 38th season in the NFL and 19th in Green Bay, has played a crucial role in guiding the Packers towards a league-best 14 playoff appearances, eight NFC North titles, and one Super Bowl crown.

The three multi-year extensions have marked a strong bode of confidence out of team president Ed Policy, who looks forward to what the move will bring for the franchise.

“The entire Packers organization looks forward to supporting every effort to bring our community and fans another championship that they very much deserve,” Policy said.
