According to NFL insider Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, the Cleveland Browns don’t expect superstar Myles Garrett to request a trade just because DC Jim Schwartz wasn’t hired as the new head coach.

The Browns hired Todd Monken as their new coach instead of Schwartz.

Garrett requested a trade from the Browns last February. One month later, Cleveland signed the defensive end to a four-year extension averaging $40 million per year and including $123 million in guaranteed money.

A future Hall of Famer, Garrett is under contract with the Browns for the next five seasons. Along with the no-trade clause, Garrett’s new deal included $100 million in the first three years, $1 million in yearly workout bonuses and $88.8 million in execution guarantees.

The Browns went 5-12 this season despite Garrett breaking the single-season sack record. Garrett had 23.0 sacks, 43 solo tackles, 33 tackles for loss and 3 QB hits this season.

Cleveland would incur $41 million in dead cap charges if it trades Garrett this offseason, according to NFL insider Dan Graziano of ESPN, but as Cabot reported, the Browns will not trade Garrett, who has spent his entire NFL career with Cleveland.

Since entering the NFL in 2017, Garrett has racked up 125.5 sacks. He deserves to play for a winning franchise and the Browns are not close to earning that title.

After Monken was hired, the Browns released the following statement:

“We are very excited to name Todd Monken the next head coach of the Cleveland Browns,” Managing and Principal Partners Dee and Jimmy Haslam said in a statement. “Todd is highly intelligent, and his experienced, innovative offensive mindset has been at the forefront of constructing productive and successful offenses at the NFL and collegiate level over the last 20 years. He is an outstanding leader and has a clear vision to lead our team as a strong communicator who values trust with his players but also accountability and preparation.

“In our committee’s exhaustive reference work on Todd, his commitment to player development was evident, and his tough and straightforward coaching is respected by the players and the coaches he’s worked with, putting our team in a position to succeed while developing our players to maximize their talents. We welcome Todd, Terri, and the rest of the Monken family back to the Browns and look forward to him establishing the winning culture that will lead our team to the success our fans so deserve.”
