It did not take long for New York Jets offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand to find a new home.
Less than one week after parting ways with the Jets, the Atlanta Falcons have hired Engstrand to serve as their passing game coordinator under first-year Falcons head coach Kevin Stefanski, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

The insider added that Engstrand had “multiple options” and was a “popular name” following his exit in New York.
Leading up to his departure from the Jets’ organization, reports indicated that the team was planning to strip the 43-year-old of his play-calling duties before ultimately deciding to part ways.
In his lone season as New York’s OC, Engstrand dealt with horrific quarterback play, as the Jets had three quarterbacks start three or more games in 2025, including Justin Fields (nine starts), Tyrod Taylor (four starts), and undrafted rookie Brady Cook (four starts).
When watching the team’s All-22 film and looking at the numbers, however, it is evident that Engstrand did a solid job scheming Gang Green’s receivers open and making the most of the lackluster quarterback play.
Jets had the 8th-highest wide-open target rate in the NFL (per FTN Fantasy), 1 spot ahead of McDaniel’s Fins, 2 ahead of Detroit, 3 ahead of Ben Johnson’s Bears.
They were 29th in comp% on passes with 3+ yards of separation and 30th in drop rate.
But sure, fire the Yr1 OC.

His passing concepts were effective, but the team lacked a quarterback capable of consistently distributing the ball to open pass-catchers.
Following a one-and-done stint as the Jets’ OC, Engstrand now joins the rebuilt staff in Atlanta under Stefanski, who is set to enter his first season as the Falcons’ head coach after a six-year run as the Cleveland Browns’ HC.
As for the Jets, they initially interviewed five candidates to fill the void left by Engstrand’s departure, and former Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator Greg Roman is the first known finalist for the role.
