Baltimore Ravens defensive tackle Nnamdi Madubuike.

When new Baltimore Ravens head coach Jesse Minter got to the portion in the interview process where he got to ask the questions, aside from anything Lamar Jackson-related, it’s not hard to guess what the first words out of his mouth were.

It had to be something along the lines of: “What’s the deal with Madubuike?”

If we can point to one thing on each side of the ball that sent the 2025 season off the rails for the Ravens on the way to missing the playoffs, on defense it has to be the season-ending neck injury to NFL All-Pro defensive tackle Nnamdi Madubuike in Week 2 — an injury which left the 28-year-old’s football future in doubt.

Madubuike seemed to give the clearest indication he might be able to return to the field in 2026 with a recent post on X which simply said: “Good News” followed by the prayer hands emoji.

It’s the second cryptic, indirect message Madubuike has sent out on social media in recent months.

Madubuike broke his silence for the first time on his Instagram stories with a picture of himself on December 8, captioned with 3 crystal ball emojis.

Harbaugh Refused to Confirm Injury’s Severity

Madubuike was put on season-ending injured reserve on September 27 with a neck injury suffered in a Week 2 win over the Cleveland Browns.

Losing Madubuike was a tremendous blow to Baltimore’s defense, but losing him for more than just this season could mean retooling their entire defensive front. He’s just that good.

In September, former head coach John Harbaugh declined to answer a question about whether Madubuike’s injury might cost him more than just the rest of this season or could even be career ending.

“I’m trying to explain it in the best way I can in terms of what I’m allowed to tell you,” Harbaugh told a group of reporters. “A lot of that are things he needs to address with you guys, on his time. Those are questions best addressed by him going forward.”

“Prayers up for Nnamdi Madubuike,” Ravens Realm wrote on its official X account. “One of the most disruptive and pivotal players on the Ravens defense and he’s out for the year. Madubuike is only 27 years old, and there’s speculation that his career may be over. Great athlete, even better person. Praying for health!”

Madubuike One of NFL’s Highest Paid Players

Madubuike, 6-foot-3 and 305 pounds, is also one of the NFL’s highest paid players at his position after he signed a 4-year, $98 million contract extension in March 2024.

The  numbers tell us Madubuike has been just as good or better than any interior defensive lineman in the NFL over the last few years. That includes the NFL’s “elite” trio of defensive tackles in Super Bowl champions Chris Jones or Jalen Carter and New York Giants star Dexter Lawrence.

“Madubuike has made the Pro Bowl the past two seasons, has 21.5 sacks since the start of the 2023 season — the most by any defensive tackle in the league,” ESPN’s Jamison Hensley wrote on September 24.
