One came from inside the building, where new head coach Jeff Hafley refused to guarantee Tagovailoa’s job. While the other came from league insiders who claim Miami has already decided to move on. The sudden shock came when Hafley appeared on The Jim Rome Show. Asked directly if Tagovailoa would be his starter, Hafley avoided the label.“I had a good conversation with Tua,” Hafley said during the radio interview. “We talked about a lot of things, but ultimately, this is going to come down to whoever we believe gives us the best chance to win.”Days earlier, Hafley told NFL Network what he wants in a quarterback. “I want a winner. I want a guy who has it mentally. He’s gotta have it physically,” he said during the network segment. “I want a guy who can walk into a room, and everyone says, ‘That’s our quarterback.’”He further added, “I want a guy who’s got it up here (pointing to his head). And I want a guy who’s got it in his heart,” Hafley told NFL Network. “And I want a guy who’s going to be able to walk into a room, and everyone will just say, ‘That’s our quarterback.'”Hafley didn’t name a replacement, but Bolavip’s latest reports allude that former NFL executive Joel Corry believes the Dolphins have already made their decision.“The Miami Dolphins appear to have already made a definitive decision regarding Tua Tagovailoa and his situation as the starting quarterback for 2026,” Corry said, according to the report. “It is only a matter of when he will be released.”Tagovailoa is entering the third year of his four-year, $212.4 million contract, which he signed in July 2024. But the numbers from 2025 told a rough story. He threw for 2,660 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions. Miami finished 7-10. Owner Stephen Ross fired Mike McDaniel shortly after the season ended.Health remains another toll. Tagovailoa has suffered five concussions between college and the NFL, including one in 2024 that kept him out for four weeks.With Hafley and new GM Jon Eric Sullivan now in charge, Miami is expected to explore free agency and the draft.
