Davis Webb is one step closer to potentially being named the Broncos’ offensive coordinator.

A source said Sunday the Broncos have had an official interview with their offensive pass game coordinator/quarterbacks coach. Sources say Webb is the leading candidate for the job, which became open when head coach Sean Payton fired Joe Lombardi Tuesday.

Webb is the third known candidate to have interviewed. Buffalo quarterbacks coach Ronald Curry interviewed Thursday, and Washington Commanders assistant head coach and offensive pass game coordinator Brian Johnson did on Friday.

By talking to Curry and Johnson, the Broncos have complied with the NFL’s Rooney Rule, which requires teams to interview at least two external diversity candidates for coordinator positions.

Webb, a former NFL quarterback, has been with the Broncos the past three seasons. He was the quarterbacks coach from 2023-24.

Webb had two interviews to be Las Vegas’ head coach before dropping out of the running last Thursday. The Raiders on Sunday reached an agreement to hire Seattle offensive coordinator and former Broncos assistant Klint Kubiak after the Seahawks face New England next Sunday in Super Bowl LX.

Meinerz drops out of Pro Bowl

An NFL official said Sunday that Broncos guard Quinn Meinerz has dropped out of the Pro Bowl Games. A source said that it was due to “personal issues.”

That leaves the Broncos with five players participating in the Pro Bowl Games this week in San Francisco for the AFC in tackle Garett Bolles, wide receiver Courtland Sutton, defensive lineman Zach Allen, outside linebacker Nik Bonitto and cornerback Pat Surtain II.

Players from the AFC and NFC had their first practice session Sunday. There will be a flag football game and other events at the Moscone Center on Tuesday night in advance of Super Bowl LX being played in Santa Clara, California.

Meinerz had turned down a Pro Bowl invitation last season because he told The Denver Gazette he didn’t want to go as an alternate. However, he had said he planned to take part this season if chosen to the initial roster, which he was.

Meinerz played in all 19 regular-season and playoff games for the Broncos. However, he missed a portion of the Nov. 6 game against Las Vegas, telling The Denver Gazette that was due to an illness that had not been diagnosed. Later in the season, he declined to say more about that illness.

Strnad’s message to fans

After a season in which the Broncos went 14-3 and made it to the AFC Championship game, linebacker Justin Strnad offered a message to their fans.

“Thank you guys for all the support this year,” he said in an interview with The Denver Gazette. “I’m sorry we couldn’t get it done (in the 10-7 loss to New England on Jan. 25). We felt like it was our year, but we came up short. Hopefully, a championship will be back here soon.”

Strnad, who has played the past six seasons with Denver, is due to become a free agent in March. He has interest in re-signing but has said he wants to be a starter and that could be difficult if linebacker Alex Singleton is re-signed. Singleton and Dre Greenlaw, who remains under contract for 2026, were the primary starters in 2025, although Greenlaw missed eight games with injuries and one due to an NFL suspension.
