The New England Patriots might not see Jalen Ramsey as much as they’ve been used to.
The Miami Dolphins will try to move on from their star cornerback this summer, NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe reported on Thursday.
“For the Dolphins, they’re already planning to move on. They’re speaking in the past,” Wolfe said. “He’s not going to be at OTAs and for them, they’re planning on developing their young corners.”
Wolfe noted nothing was imminent and it’s been relatively quiet, though there is interest. However, the Dolphins could be waiting until June or July to make a move. Wolfe noted Miami will save nearly $18 million against the cap if the team waits for a trade after June 1.
A trade before June 1 would trigger $25.213 in million dead money, while a post-June 1 trade would split that amount in 2025 and 2026.
“They have talked to a lot of teams,” Wolfe said. “I’m told the Dolphins are aware of teams that Ramsey would be interested in. … This is a situation where relationships are hard, and the relationship between the Dolphins and Ramsey has essentially run out.”
Teams mentioned were the Los Angeles Rams, Atlanta Falcons and Carolina Panthers.
The report comes about a month after Dolphins general manager Chris Grier said Miami plans to “move forward” in trade talks for Ramsey. Grier confirmed Ramsey didn’t ask for a trade, but noted moving on from him will give the Dolphins the “best chance to help us win not only just this year, but in the future as well.”
The Dolphins made Ramsey the highest-paid cornerback in September when they signed him to a three-year, $72.3 million deal.
