After a shake-up with the Michigan Wolverines coaching staff following the dismissal of former head coach Sherrone Moore, we are starting to see some of the former assistants land new jobs elsewhere, be it at the college or NFL levels.
On Monday, it was announced that former Michigan offensive line coach Grant Newsome was being hired by the New York Giants as the new assistant OL coach. ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported the news on Monday morning.
Newsome played offensive tackle with the Wolverines, and then started his coaching career as a student assistant with Michigan in 2018. He eventually became the tight ends coach and moved to the OL coach from 2024-25. With former Utah coach Kyle Whittingham coming in, though, a new staff was hired in Ann Arbor.
Newsome was a member of Michigan’s 2023 national championship-winning coaching staff, working with the tight ends at the time. Now in New York. Newsome will be working under new head coach John Harbaugh, the brother of Jim Harbaugh, Newsome’s former boss.
