Wichita businesses prepare for Super Bowl without Kansas City Chiefs

  • February 3, 2026

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – With the Super Bowl coming up, bars and restaurants across the country are preparing for busy crowds.

However, for some Wichita businesses, things might look a little different this year with the Chiefs not in the game.

Over the past few years, the Kansas City Chiefs have been a mainstay in both the NFL playoffs and the Super Bowl. Things went a little differently for them this year.

With the Chiefs failing to make the Super Bowl, and an overall lack of success this season, some businesses around Wichita say they are starting to see a little bit of a dip.

“Sundays have definitely been a challenge for us without having the Chiefs playing, especially without having them in the playoffs, but we’re still holding onto a pretty solid crowd,” says Guin Robles, a manager at Pumphouse.

Some of the businesses say part of their draw has been the other games being played.

“We’re a full-on sports bar, we welcome all the teams to come and watch their games,” says Cindy Lea with Side Pockets.

“People are still out supporting their Broncos, supporting their Green Bay, Dallas, so we still see those,” says Robles.

One Chiefs fan says regardless of who’s playing, he’ll be watching.

“I’ll still get together with friends and family and watch the game and enjoy it but, you know, it’s kinda disappointing that the Chiefs aren’t in it because I’ve always been a lifelong Chiefs fan,” says Rick Atteberry.

Other bars say they expect business as usual for the game, even with a lack of Patrick Mahomes.

“The Super Bowl is the Super Bowl, you know? It’s football, beer and football,” says Jamie Viray, a bartender at Caesar’s Barroom.
